A ME-ist to a WE-ist: How We Can Change the World One Person at a Time

CHAPTER 3

Don’t Judge Others

It’s difficult to become a We-ist when you’re plagued with being judgmental of other’s behaviour for their selfish ways or actions; your colleagues taking too long lunchbreaks; a overweight runner on the treadmill at the gym; or ‘they’ are always disagreeing with your decisions. Let’s face it; we all lose our patience with the way our friends and family members act at times. Is it realistic to be completely judgment free? Perhaps, the best we can do is to be vigilant and work on damage control. If we realize even a slight improvement in our Self and the number of times we judge those around us, isn’t this walking on the correct path to real change? Therefore, it appears to me that judging others provides the potential to experience real growth in your life as you make strides to be less judgmental in those situations. When we judge others and their behaviour, are we judging them or are we judging our self? The Dean of Personal Development, Earl Nightingale, believes that we are holding up a mirror of our Self because “judging someone does not define who they are; it defines who we are.” It might be our own insecurities that prompt our judgmental words, actions, and thoughts.

So, as we judge our colleagues for taking those extra minutes for their lunch, are we looking at our own behaviour and our own (in)ability to control our time? Or, as we frown inside when we see that fat runner on the treadmill, are we worrying about our own bodies becoming overweight as the years in our lives add up? Perhaps, when we judge our partner who questions or disagrees with every decision we make in life, we have innate fear that we are making the wrong decision, but this fear manifests as judging the other person’s reaction to us? In the end, a recent blog by Shola (2017), sums up what is brewing within our minds as we criticize the actions and words of those around us; “usually, we harshly judge others because we do the same to ourselves.” Isn’t this the truth? Accordingly, when I judge someone for being late for an appointment, I’m really saying that my way is the correct way, the only way, to live life and there’s little tolerance for not living up to my standards of behaviour.

Our judgment of other’s actions and words act to reinforce our own core values, beliefs, and assumptions that ultimately, create our reality. As we pass judgment, we are able to comprehend how ‘their’ core values, beliefs, and assumptions fit in with ours. Here’s the problem; according to Dutta (2017), “everything in life looks morally incorrect and wrong, until we do that thing ourselves. What we don’t do ourselves is often unacceptable to our mind.” If different, we build a wall between us; if similar we build bridges. We may see that judging others negatively, who are different than we are, is morally and ethically wrong, but still, it is difficult to change our thoughts, words, and actions. If we see our own prejudices as they are, we must live with those or even more alarming, we must change to be more accepting of those who values and beliefs of life are not the same as ours.

When we judge others, we add negative energy to our inner and outer world. Do we need to increase negative energy with the state our world is in at this moment? I don’t believe so; to make changes in our lives and our world we need to live with more positive thoughts, words, and actions which will create more positive energy. Once again, here’s a wonderful opportunity for personal growth in your life. We cannot live within a realm of negative and positive energy at the same time; it’s scientifically impossible. So, it’s either one or the other and we have complete control over what state of energy we live within. Since judging our family members, colleagues, and friends is mired in negative energy, it simply is not possible to add to the greater good of the planet when we judge others. There is no way that anyone can rationalize being judgmental helps the Me-ists of the world become We-ists. Think, speak, and act positive towards those you once judged. Imagine a world where there is an abundance of understanding and positivity rather than judging and negativity.

What’s the fuss about living in a state of negative energy? There is much to be concerned about and this is proven by modern day science, not just the words of the poets or writers. The trillions of cells that comprise our body respond to our thoughts, words, and actions much the same way as they are influenced by pharmaceutical drugs and our internal juices (Pert, 2010). Stress can result from negative thoughts, words, or actions, and when this occurs, our bodies react by creating a cornucopia of chemicals that include adrenaline, norepinephrine, and cortisol. Their release in our body is associated with surviving when trouble strikes; while helpful at the time of danger (shutting down what bodily functions are not needed, such as digestion, growth, and reproductive system), if our bodies keep producing cortisol, for example, when not required, this leads to serious damage. Klein (2013) reports that “Too much cortisol can suppress the immune system, increase blood pressure and sugar, decrease libido, produce acne, contribute to obesity and more.”  Passing judgment upon those around us draws negatives towards us, and soon we are languishing in ill-conceived chemicals that result from negative energy.

“Live by intuition, do not live by logic.”

What drives science?

Science has always been driven by hardened logic supported with cold facts and soulless formulas to account for all the biological, mathematical, sociological, historical, and mystical questions which abound within this life. And even though the answers to a great number of these mysteries are firmly and unquestionably entrenched deep within the collective consciousness of humankind, nevertheless, science and hence logic, dictates that the majority of us are unequivocally wrong in what we believe or feel as the truth.

Do we see the truth or feel the truth?

While many wholeheartedly support the findings that manifest from scientific inquiry as the full truth and the only reality, this way of thinking comes at a high price. Intuition or natural knowledge which cannot be measured, observed, or calculated by white-coated lab assistants with modern day scientific equipment – is ridiculed as the baseless musings of artists, romantics, and poets to fabricate the fantasies of life, not the realities of life. At the expense of the traditional, we accept the novel as the only truth and solitary reality.

Live life by the seen ?

Logic or rational thought is based upon the seen and not upon the unseen. Hence, the rational mind’s mantra is best expressed as When I see it, I’ll believe it. When we accept that logic is the solitary path to truth and reality, we accept that truth and reality can only be measured, observed, and recorded by man or machine. The inherent problem with using these methods to arrive at all your conclusions and decisions in life is that these facts are the result of the noise from others.

Facts can be a mix of truth and fantasy

Facts, while a mix of both truth and fantasy manifest from the observations of politicians, educators, researchers, and the like to create the illusion in life which each group supports, either openly or covertly, as their personal agenda. Most have closed eyes and are unable to see through the illusion of life as they live it. However, when they open their eyes and see through life’s illusions, then they are in a position to reclaim that which they had lost initially.

Linear thinking and logic go hand-in-hand

When a person embraces logic as their savior in this earthly life, they inherit a number of conditions which are inseparable from the whole. For example, linear thinking accompanies a logical mind. Since these conditions go hand in hand, we understand that a linear view of life occurs when a person has been trained to expect that A leads to B and B leads to C leads to D and so on and so on. If A leads to B and B leads to C then there is no uncertainty…only certainty. Many are unable to live with uncertainty in their lives, as a result, when these people live their lives, they rely upon logic and the facts and the seen to bring a sense of certainty and security to their lives.

Certainty brings stability to some

It is difficult, if not impossible for these people to flee from the certainty that brings stability to their lives. Nonetheless, even a small measure of uncertainty can manifest a crack in the paradigm which they live their lives. Mystery is unsettling. Unfamiliarity is frightening. Still, a small crack can slowly fester over time and then when a threshold is breached, uncertainty prevails over certainty. In this sense, logic could be viewed as a boomerang that comes back and hurts the hunter since everyday life is often filled with seemingly unexpected and uncontrollable events.

Intuition arises from silence

While logic arises from the noise manifested by facts and the seen, intuition results from the silence manifested by feelings and the unseen. Hence, the intuitive mind’s personal mantra then appears to be best articulated as I’ll believe it, then I’ll see it. The brain and our Self have the innate ability to comprehend that which we do not comprehend at a physical level.

We need no help to comprehend intuitive knowledge

And this understanding does not require any assistance from outside of our Self. It is our raw feelings that unlock the natural knowledge which is found deep within our souls and our DNA – the knowledge within is freely given to each of us by the benevolent Source regardless of our gender, race, education, or location. And the strength of our connection to the Source determines our receptivity to this divine gift that provides a pathway to understand the mystical, the miraculous, the unseen.

We cannot separate the inseparable…this is an illusion

When a person embraces intuition as their sole path to arrive at their conclusions and decisions in life, they do so based upon their own feelings from their inner world and do not rely upon the noise from others in their outer world. This method does not come without its consequences since it is not possible to separate the inseparable. Just as certainty is inseparable from logic, uncertainty is inseparable from intuition.

Your road-map exists within

This is not to say that a person who relies upon their intuition to solve their life’s issues goes around uncertain of what they need to do in order to accomplish that which they want to accomplish. Rather, it is like being provided with a road-map and the directions to end-up at your final destination are not highlighted with a bright yellow marker. You have the map and you need to hear the directions from your inner voice.

Your senses will guide you on your journey

You must also rely upon your senses to find the right way – you rely upon the sun and the wind and your Self to arrive at your final location. Hence, A does not lead to B and B does not lead to C…you just know where you want to go and know with your entirety that you’ll get there, it is just that there are a variety of ways to get there and here is where the uncertainty steps in.

Uncertainty is a virtue…embrace it, do not scorn it

I can say with certainty that uncertainty is a sacred virtue. When we surrender our Self to our intuition, we surrender our Self to the Source and the ancient knowledge innate within each of us to live a life with our truths and our realities. While we may surrender our Self to uncertainty, there is little sacrifice since surrendering certainty for uncertainty is an empowering feeling. Our constant sense of gratitude for the freedom is amplified as we experience life unshackled by the chains of certainty.

How can we access our innate knowledge?

We can access intuition by our clear and focused thoughts and the long and often forgotten ways rekindle the connection that is lost over our lifetime. As we experience clarity of thought, we see through the illusions of life and do not fear, worry, or hate what the logical mind fears, worries, and hates. We do not need nor rely upon facts and science to explain the mysteries of life which include our belief of the Source, our ability to create or own reality, and our capacity to cure our dis-eased bodies and minds.

Don’t believe only in facts

We do not believe in the facts and the reality that the seen world presents to us. After all if we did, by all rights a poor girl from Venezuela would never become a world renowned singer; a poor child who grew-up in a ghetto with little but his desire to become a famous sports figure would do so; and a boy who endured hunger when growing-up would become a famous jockey.

Intuition conquers all

It is indeed a rarefied atmosphere where intuition is the conqueror of fear, uncertainty, and the seen. Turning your decision making process over to the unknown and the unseen requires a huge leap of faith. In this day and age where science is slowly strangling our reliance upon and the confidence in our own Self to cure our illnesses, to achieve our goals, and to answer our mystical questions, we need 100% trust, 100% faith, and 100% belief in our divine gift in order to relinquish the control of our destiny to our Self.

Surrender to your intuition

While the price for our complete trust, our complete faith, and our complete belief may seem to be exorbitant, once we relinquish our Self to our intuition, it is like a traveler who leaves a humble home in an underdeveloped rural village to live in a modern metropolitan area. That person never returns with the same state of mind, the same level of wonder, and the same measure of confidence as when they first turned the handle of their door and made that initial step outside their comfortable and familiar hometown.

Intuition manifests a happier, healthier life

Live your life by intuition and not by logic. When making this comment, I certainly do not question being rational concerning driving your car at 100 mph on an icy road through the mountains in December. Rather, I mean to live by intuition when making the really BIG decisions in life such as your job, your spouse, and your business. If you live by intuition and not by reason, surely, you will have a happier, healthier, and wealthier life since you are doing what you truly want with who you truly want to be with and when you truly want to do it. At the least, it certainly makes life a lot more enjoyable than the predictable, routine that most of us trade for security.  Allow the untapped or the forgotten knowledge that resides deep within your inner world to reign supreme over the noise and distractions of your outer world.

“We spiritually mirror the image of the Source – we do not physically mirror the image of the Source.”

Created in his image?

One of the greatest books handed down to us from over 20 centuries ago clearly states that humankind was created in the image of the Source. Naturally, it has been assumed since the early beginnings of this world religion that humankind is the physical manifestation of the Source; hence, we look like the Source in our physical bodies. If we mirror the Creator’s image – then the Creator has all the physical features that humankind possesses including arms, legs, eyes, and so forth.

A spiritual or physical image?

However, this appears to be a straightforward and superficial interpretation of those words found in that renowned manuscript. Rather than humankind mirroring the physical image of the Source, when we seek to understand the metaphysical meaning of this statement, it is clear that humankind mirrors the spiritual image of the Source.

Overlooking the  Kingdom

Since early times, we have accepted the idea that the Source embodies all the physical features that humankind has. The literature and artwork from these earlier times depicted an omnipotent Source with a long flowing beard, overlooking His kingdom, and clutching a long wooden staff. While our ancestors and many of us still accept this physical rendition of our Creator as true…in this modern era, some question this image and others turn their backs upon this idea as just folly.

We challenge an ancient concept

And rightfully so, while we attempt to grasp the concept that one person can be all knowledgeable and all powerful, we also have to attempt to understand that the Omnipotent One is not of our physical or temporal world, instead, somewhere out there. Somewhere out there – not seen or experienced by our physical senses, rather, only in the realm of our spiritual senses.

Spiritual manifestation and not physical manifestation

A spiritual image of humankind to the Source is far removed from a physical image of humankind to the Source. The findings of modern-day scientists help us to arrive at the conclusion that humankind is the spiritual manifestation and not the physical manifestation of the Source. When we consider the creation of the universe, surely, we must be a spiritual image of the Source. Scientists have discovered a vast web of energy which permeates every nook and cranny within the universe. And it appears that each and every one of us is the remnant of this primordial energy which was created at the exact moment that the universe appeared out of nothingness at the hand of an all powerful and all knowledgeable Source.

We are primordial energy

We all are that original energy housed in a physical body, nothing more and nothing less. This being the case, we have a divine and eternal connection to the Source and hence, a connection to all the power that exists within the spiritual realm to manifest what we truly set our minds upon.

Active creators…not passive observers

If there is any doubt that we can manifest our wants and desires in this physical world by our spiritual energy, one only needs to look at the results from recent experiments to understand all possibilities occur at our finger tips. The pioneers of quantum physics have found that we are creators in this universe and not just idle observers. As creative participants, we have control over our results – accordingly, we must take full responsibility for our past, present, and future results.

Every possibility exists at every moment

It is also conjectured that we exist within multiple universes – multiple universes exist so that every possibility exists at the same moment and every thought, every word, and every action that you make can affect the outcome of your life. When we strip away the sinew, the bones, and the tissue, then and only then do we experience the true mirror image of the Source that we possess.

Our true Self is not bone and tissue

The essence of the Source cannot be bound or found in sinew and bone and tissue. Rather, a mirror image of the Source is one which holds love in our hearts, compassion in our words, and courage in our actions.

We are the mirror image of the Source

Humankind is the spiritual manifestation of the Source and not the physical manifestation of the Source. As such, we can live a life that mirrors the spiritual characteristics which we understand the Source’s qualities. We can be loving, we can be forgiving, we can be compassionate, we can be understanding, we can be fearless, and we can be creators. Rejoice that you have been created in the spiritual image of the Source. Accept how your life changes for the better when you mirror the spiritual image of the Source. Strive with your utmost ability to mirror the spiritual image of the Source to enjoy a truly fulfilled life.

“Action, no matter the intensity or the frequency, will never overcome Vibrational Discord.”

Massive action is part of the equation for success

We are often told to take ‘massive action’ when things are not progressing as we want them to when it comes to achieving our goals. The thought is that action, no matter the level of desire or sense of expectancy, will help propel you closer to your intended goal. Still, nothing can be further from the truth when it comes to achieving your goals.

Your vibrational state is a mirror of your results

While you make full or half-hearted efforts to progress to your goals, the major problem,  your vibrational state, is not changed. Since your vibrational state remains the same, so your situation remains the same. Action is not the critical ingredient in your journey to achieve your goals, without a doubt, your vibrational state is the most important with your actions mirroring the vibrational state that you inhabit and not your vibrational state mirroring your actions.

You attract what you emit to the universe

The Natural Laws clearly indicate that you can only attract that which you send out and you send out what vibrations you are experiencing at each and every moment that you share this physical environment called Earth. There is no break, no holiday, no down time from inhabiting a vibrational state and even when you are sleeping, you are transmitting your vibrational state of good feelings, such as compassion and patience, or bad, such as jealousy and envy, out to the universe. And, you can only attract back that which you emit.

Change your state to change your results

So, if you are having a difficult time to achieve what you want from life, it seems that taking action to achieve that goal without being in the proper vibrational state is like shooting your Self in the foot since your expectations, thoughts, and words are what manifest your wants and not your actions which are backed by insecurity, envy, doubt, and disbelief.

Incongruent thoughts and words manifest your actions

Vibrational Discord occurs when your thoughts and words are incongruent with your actions. Hence, you may act as if you truly want to achieve your goal, writing to do lists, looking at pictures of your goals, and even imagining the benefits that you and your family will enjoy when you have achieved your goal.   However, deep inside of you are thinking thoughts of disbelief, negative expectancy and a host of other negatives.

Your inner world of Vibrational Discord creates barriers to achieve your results

So, while you display a confident exterior to the world, your negative interior is forming a wall of resistance which is so formidable that no amount of action or strength of action can possible go around, go under, or go through the barrier that has been put before you by you and your own incongruent thoughts and feelings. Vibrational imbalance is not circumvented by action;  it is corrected by positive thoughts and words, there is no other possible means to get back on track and shed vibrational imbalance than gain vibrational accord.

Vibrational Accord creates the level of success you envision

You need to change the inside, which ultimately changes the vibrational state you inhabit, before you can achieve that which you hold dear to your heart. Action, no matter the frequency or strength, in the presence of Vibrational Discord will never manifest that which you set your sights upon. Action, no matter the frequency or strength, in the presence of Vibrational Accord manifests that which you set your sights upon. Focus upon your vibrational balance to achieve your goals and not focus upon your action to achieve your goals.

“Revisit your past to redefine your future.”

Most don’t have an ‘ideal’ family life

When you develop good friendships and meaningful relationships with others, we frequently open-up to that trusted person about our family life and how we grew-up facing certain situations. While listening to the many stories that have been shared with me, I seldom have heard of anyone who has grown-up in an ‘ideal’ family life. There are the stories of physical and mental abuse which have left their scars upon our lives and shaped the futures of the people who have lived through such maladies.

Don’t bury the past…resurrect the past

Still, these things have happened and we must not bury them deep within our Self, that would only prolong our suffering and stifle our spiritual and personal growth, rather, we must revisit them with a greater sense of awareness in order to create a future which is a more positive and more fulfilling experience.

Is there a ‘perfectly dysfunctional’ family?

Looking back, I now understand the influence that growing up in a ‘perfectly dysfunctional’ family had upon my life. My story may mirror what many have experienced. One parent was overbearing and wouldn’t allow me to try anything new or to think for myself since I wasn’t that capable or that smart. The constant put-downs and verbal innuendos about my ability and intellect left me with little confidence in both social and educational situations. I struggled to find who I was and what I was good at.

Success occurred, but at a cost

Finally, I made some progress, earned my university degree, and landed a good job which enabled me to buy a house and an expensive German sports car. However, instead of being given credit for attaining this level of success, these changes intimidated my parent and we never had a relationship or spoke thereafter, not even an impending death could we resolve these issues.

Money is the root of all evil

The other parent grew-up with an attitude that money was indeed the root of all evil and rich people were unhappy and had many more problems in life than poor people. And besides, you were meant to work hard and scrimp and save until you finally could enjoy the many years of hard labor when you retire. I now understand that always being bailed out of my economic problems was a sign of love and that was what a good parent would do; help their poor and struggling child when in difficulty. Growing-up in this kind of environment caused me pain and suffering for many years.

A revelation…with the appearance of Napoleon Hill, James Allen, and Raymond Holliwell

In my job, I was introduced to the masters and masterpieces of self-development: Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill; As a Man Thinketh by James Allen, and Working with the Law by Raymond Holliwell. These classics taught me that I certainly was not responsible for the thoughts of my parents, however, I was responsible for my own thoughts; I couldn’t change them, but I could change me. I could not change my past but I could change my future and it began with the thoughts that I held in my mind. I was aware of what happened and why it happened and what the results were of my upbringing, and to move forward and to change, I could not remain in the negative state of blame of how others had messed-up my life.

Take full responsibility to make huge changes

I took full responsibility to make the changes that I needed to make to become the person I truly wanted to be. I left the past behind as an experience, as a part of my life, and as a part of what I am today. There is no animosity or blame, just understanding from a distance which left me as a spectator to what had occurred and not as a victim.

Achieve a positive vibratory state to move forward…by being forgiving

Being in a positive vibratory state about the past is crucial to overcoming what has formed you earlier and now taking hold of your present life. In order to move to a positive state of vibration, there are a couple of ideas that can help you in the process. First, you must forgive the person or persons who had such influence upon your earlier life, this is a must. If you harbor bad feelings and apprehension towards the person or persons, you can only be held back where you are in a negative state since this is the predominate thoughts that occupy your mind.

This exercise will rid you of negative thoughts and ill feelings

Take a piece of paper and write the person’s name on it; then light a match and burn the name (it does not matter if the person has passed when doing this, in fact, it is even more important since the person is not on this physical plane of existence). As the name is burning, say the following and really mean what you say with all your senses; I want the best for you, (name of the person). I want the best for me (state your name). I forgive you (name of the person). I forgive me (state your name). Can you feel the negative energy dissipate? Can you feel lighter as the burden of all those years has just been lifted from your shoulders? Did you cry tears of joy? If you did not experience a sense of relief and bliss, perhaps you do not truthfully want the best for the person or your Self. And by the same token, past thinking and actions are difficult to overcome since they have been harbored deep within our souls for perhaps decades. Be patient and try this again until you receive the feelings of joy and happiness of true forgiveness for both you and the other person.

There’s an alternative way to achieve forgiveness

If you feel uncomfortable with the above, there is an alternative means for you to forgive the other person so both of you can move forward to repair the past injustices. Find a quiet, private place where you can say the following: I release you (state the name), from your responsibility, I release me (state your name), from my responsibility. I send the best of life to you (state the name), and I send the best of life to me (state your name). Once again, feel true forgiveness and you will occupy a positive state where the things that transpired in the past are neither good nor bad, they just are.

Forgiveness paves the way to your success

You have the immense power of the universe and the Source in your hands when you practice true forgiveness for those who were unjust to you in the past. Be patient and work at forgiving; the world will appear different to you when you succeed at coming to terms with your past.

“Life is not a miracle – it is a planned miracle.”

miracle3

Immutable Laws – not chance, luck or fate

The universe and each constituent part of the universe, however large or small, is bound by immutable laws, and as such, are not governed by fate or luck or just mere coincidence. The Source planned all that we experience within our spiritual realm and without our physical world to glorify the omnipresence and benevolence of the One.

Exacting laws, smallest balances, and finest ratios

The very existence of the Cosmos and everything that exists within this vast realm of space hangs in the balance of exacting laws, smallest balances, and finest ratios. Many leading scientists are of the belief that if the universe slows down by a nanosecond, it would implode; if the universe accelerates by a nanosecond, it would tear itself apart; and if the delicate balance of Earth’s atmosphere alters even slightly, most life on our planet as we know it would perish. Hence, when we consider the speed of the planets, the rate of expansion of the universe, the ratio of gases within the Earth’s atmosphere, we must ask ourselves how could each of the millions and millions of elements attain and sustain a perfect state of harmony and exactness within and between all the heavenly bodies if not for divine intervention of the Source?

Supreme Intelligence and The Laws

The discoveries within new physics, from the likes of Max Planck, David Bohm, and John Wheeler and their ideas of quantum physics, is coming closer than ever to proving scientifically without any doubt that the Source exists and is the creator of the universe and life as we know it. Naturally, this finding will support what the founding legends of many ancient cultures and all formal religions have been espousing for centuries: if there is a beginning, there is a beginner. And intelligence, only supreme intelligence, can fine-tune the laws, the balances, and the ratios which create and sustain our cosmos and ourselves.

Our concepts may be holding us back from realizing the truth

While we are approaching a profound time in human history, there is a still an issue in many minds if the Source is indeed responsible for the planned creation of humankind and the cosmos. It appears that part of the problem is our concept of the Source. Over time immemorial, since the true physical manifestation of the Source is indefinable by our language and unimaginable in our minds, it is the ancient texts, the arts, and the media which are responsible for the anthropomorphism of the Source. Hence, it is of little wonder we are skeptical of our origins as we envision a grey-bearded man sitting on a throne as he benevolently surveys his kingdom.

We are a planned miracle

Enjoy inner peace with the knowledge that we are the product of a planned miracle, and as such, our future achievements in love and life do not rest upon luck or fate or chance.

Let life take you to where you should be taken to.

8. Do not swim – float.

(Osho’s Eighth New Commandment)

Offer no resistance

If we are unexpectedly thrown into the water, our natural reaction is to swim, to make a concerted effort to escape our present situation, an unpleasant present so to speak. We are conditioned to save our self, and the fundamental need to survive and escape from harm’s way is the same when in the water, on the land, or in the air. However, to experience life to the fullest: we need to let the water carry us to where we should be without any effort or resistance on our part; let the land carry us to where we should be without effort or resistance on our part; let the air carry us to where we should be without effort or resistance on our part.

header18A metaphor for your life

In this post, the words and ideas are not about splashing in the waves of the ocean, frolicking around the streets of the land, or drifting along on the currents of the air…the reference to water, land, and air is intended as metaphors for and about your life. And since it is about life, we should always consider what plane of existence we want to live on; surely, it must be without question to seek a higher plane of life, a higher level of consciousness, and a higher vision of self…the one that was, is, and will be you. Still, this is  lost to your self if you and you alone let it happen.

Spend time alone

In order to float effortlessly upon the sea of life, you must spend time alone; time without all of the distractions we face in this modern era…our mobiles, Internet, televisions, and newspapers. For it is when you are truly alone that you silence the white noise that causes you to be distracted from the real you, the truthful you, the super-conscious you. As you separate yourself from the distractions, you feel the soothing waves upon your soul, the sweet smells  upon your senses, the warm breezes upon your body, drifting with an innate purpose to the destination that is meant to be your end destination.

When you are alone, it should be the greatest of joys; the greatest of thrills; the greatest of opportunities to reflect upon what you are, where you are, and who you want to become.  As you reflect upon your life, it is soon apparent that you can be free in every sense of the word if you focus upon freedom; as you release any chains that encumber your spiritual transformation to the real you, you feel the miracle that is you…the beating of your heart, the breathing of your lungs, the echoing of your thoughts.

Let the tide take you to where it wants you to be

As you are thrown into the water of life, let it take you to where it knows that you should be taken. And as you swirl around this way and that, do so without resistance, without a fight, without a preconceived idea of where you should be brought to…just let it happen. As you let it happen, you soon feel the euphoric feeling of freedom; you are free of society, free from having to swim to survive, free to let the tide take you where you should be taken without any interference on your part, without any ego on your part, and without any agenda on your part.

Seekers need not seek

We are too often caught-up in seeking that which we want, however, when we do this we often close our eyes, ears, and minds to what our inner being is saying to and for us.  With closed eyes, ears, and minds we believe that we know the answer, and that answer appears to us as an illusion from the materialistic world, the unreal world, the world of untruths. As we run towards our goals, we run away from our self. We run an untrue race to nowhere. We run to a void not out of a void.

In life, the seeker cannot run away from self; furthermore, the seeker also runs within self…as such, the outer world of the seeker appears frantic, anxious, fearful; and the inner world is a mirror image of the outer world. Thus, a seeker’s inner world is frantic, anxious, and fearful. Will this lead to a happy life, a life of freedom, a life of enlightenment?

Non-seekers, by contrast, have no need or desire to run from self. They thrive on being the one true self, the self that is innate, created by the Source. As such, the outer world of the non-seeker is one of peace, harmony, and joy and their inner world is a mirror image of the outer world. Thus, a non-seeker’s inner world is one of peace, harmony, and joy. Will this lead to a fulfilled and meaningful life?

Live the journey without effort

The key is to let life take you where you ought to be taken, and as you drift along with the current and not against the current – when you go against what most of us do when thrown into the water called life – you feel an inner transformation of peacefulness, happiness, and tranquility….you have arrived at where you should be without making an effort to get there.  Be grateful that your innate wisdom has usurped the worldly non-wisdom; the truth has usurped the illusion of non-truth, and the divine has usurped the profane. The destination that always was, is, and will be your final one.

Where do we find truth in this day and age?

3. Truth is within, do not look elsewhere.

(Osho’s Third New Commandment)

We are truth

Each of us is the physical manifestation of a compassionate, loving Source who is the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end, the start and the finish. As such, we are the embodiment of truth…we are created from truth and we retain the truth deep within. Our truth is not seen on the outside by others, but it is felt on the inside by each of us. And it is our truth and ours alone that helps us to live a joyful and meaningful life.

Quiet the noise

header20Our modern technological age has many distractions; television, computers, and mobiles all get in line to take a piece out of us, as we surrender one piece at a time these cannot be replaced unless we endure a great deal of angst and difficulty. Still, we must find truth, our truth even though we face a myriad of roadblocks that blind us from the truth. How do we find truth? We must quiet the noise that threatens to smother us, takes away truth, forms barriers between us and what we know is the truth for us. The best way to turn down the white noise of modernity and make it inaudible is to meditate on a regular basis. As we face our self in quiet solitude, we face our truth, and as we face our truth we face the truth that has been given freely and lovingly by the Source.

Truth has no physical shape

Do not look at an expensive watch for truth; do not look at a costly automobile for truth; and do not look at a spacious mansion for truth…you will be disappointed if you think these material goods will reveal the truth to you. If perchance, you do believe that these hold the truth that you are seeking, it is only an illusion, one that is able to fool your five worldly senses but one that cannot fool your unworldly senses.

Be selfish and pursue truth

Some of us may think that it is selfish to pursue truth, this idea is as far from the truth as it possibly can be. When we pursue truth we are fulfilling our love for and the obligation to the Source to be the best we can be. This is not being selfish…this is being selfless. Untainted by the perils of modern day living, we end up at our original place of being, a hallowed place that is formed by the positive energy emitted by the light and the love of our Creator.

Truth is to be lived, each moment at a time

We live truth, we are truth in our present physical manifestation…we cannot create it…we cannot see it…we cannot buy it…we can only live it, and we live it when we close our eyes and listen to the truth that we hold within.

Moses, Osho and the New Ten Commandments

According to the Book of Exodus in the Bible, Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt to escape persecution at the hands of the Pharaoh, Ramses. Having escaped evil, they set up their camp at the base of Mount Sinai. Moses ascended the sacred mountain and returned with two stone tablets that listed the Ten Commandments (Thou shall not murder; Thou shall not steal). These were laws to help guide Moses’ people to lead a ‘good’ life.

Now, let’s move ahead in time where we find the New Ten Commandments penned by  Osho (December. 11, 1931 – January 19, 1990), an Indian mystic, guru, writer, and spiritual teacher. Even all these years after his death, his works are followed by a large number of readers for their wonderful messages. Recently, I read Osho’s words on an ancient theme of how to live a ‘good’ life in modern times. Over the next few posts, I’ll include my ideas about the Ten New Laws of Life.

1. Obey no orders except those within.

(Osho’s First New Commandment)

Our intuition is our most valued gift

stairwayOur inner self, or our intuition is a direct link to our Creator, and as such the ideas we receive from our inner being must be accepted as the truth, the one and only truth in our present physical manifestation. Since there can be only one truth, and that truth comes from within, we should not listen to what comes from without. It is our inner world, the unseen world of feelings and intuition that manifests a life of joy and plenty. However, many shun the unseen only for the seen as a pathway to happiness and success in life. That’s myopic.

Intuition is irrational, not logical

Those who only believe what they see, which in turn is something that they can measure, identify, and therefore analyze with scientific accuracy have a difficult time in believing that intuition exists. This is not a reason to disbelieve. However, as Osho (2001) points out, “Intuition cannot be explained scientifically because the very phenomenon is unscientific. The very phenomenon of intuition is irrational.” We cannot see gravity…but it exists for our benefit. We must experience a leap of faith – because it cannot be measured is not a valid reason to think that it does not or cannot exist.

We cannot intellectualize intuition

Our problem is that we feel intuition and then attempt to intellectualize it, to fill the gap between what we feel and what we cannot see, touch, or smell. Still, the higher can subsume the lower, but the lower cannot subsume the lower, and so it is with intuition…it can subsume intellect but intellect cannot subsume it. When we obey what is without and not within, we cannot reach our full potential in life, it is so because our present is not our future…our future is malleable if we follow what we know is the truth. Ultimately, if we obey what comes from within,  and not what comes from without, we have mastered the first of the new Laws of Life.
